Free Greek course in development

Disclaimer: I am not learning Greek, and cannot comment on the content.

I really like the approach Seumas Macdonald is taking here. the whole thing can be read, downloaded and corrections etc submitted via a Github page. There are two releated projects focused on gramma and excercises and providing a companion guide.

This to my mind is exactly how educational content for the classics ought to be developed. In the open, unrestricted, can be built upon (someone could do audio recordings, for instance, or match dialogues to the steps in the existing text).
Unfortunately I can’t comment on the text itself but hope it is useful, and would like to hear what others think of it.

I see there is another thread on this in the textbooks section.

Thank you for sharing this. It’s an admirable project. Making Greek and Latin accessible to all is a critical task for the field. Unfortunately, from a quick look at random chapters, the Greek as it stands is of poor quality—error ridden and unidiomatic. I wouldn’t recommend it to my students.

That’s unfortunate to hear. I guess the number of people capable of good writing in Latin and Greek is unfortunately small. Still, he is doing this in the open, so should expect feedback on the text, so I guess the question is whether it is worth submitting corrections and suggesting improvements.

I discovered that the language learning platform Mango offers an interactive online Ancient Greek course

https://learn.mangolanguages.com/pathway/from/en-US/to/grc

Mango courses are usually paid subscription based, but I am two thirds of the way through it and have not met a paywall. The Greek is taken from Homer (the Illiad) and Herodotus. I have benefitted from the course but I am not skilled enough to say have good or accurate the Greek is.
Has anyone else worked on this course?

To be fair to the author, he does say it is not ready. If anyone has time to offer him suggestions and corrections, I think that woul be helpful – he does ask for this.
