Family Motto

Salvete omnes,

A colleague has asked me what his family motto means. I have a fair idea, but I thought I would ask for some expert opinions. It goes thus :-

et si ostendo non jacto

Thanks in advance for you help.

Valete,

C. Sentius Leontius

et si ostendo non jacto

Well, litterally it means:

“and if I hold out not I do throw (out)”

That said, “hold out” can also be interpreted as “display/exhibit” and “iacto” as “discuss” or even “boast/bragg”

So, basically, it means:

“When I do/show something well, I won’t bragg about it.”

Since I had nothing better to do:

Thanks Kasper. Much appreciated.
