LLPSI Familia Romana CAP XXVI - Daedalus et Icarus

I’d be grateful if someone could have a look at my translations. Any corrections welcome. Thanks.

  1. Icarus despiciens multitudinem insularum miratus est: O, quot parvae insulae in mari ingenti sunt.

Icarus, looking down, is astonished by the large number of islands: Oh, how many small islands there are in this vast sea!

  1. Peloponnesus est, Graeciae pars, nec vero insula est, sed paeninsula, nam Peloponnesus terra angusta, quae Isthmus vocatur, cum reliqua Graecia coniungitur.

It is the Peloponnese which is part of Greece; it’s not an island, but a peninsula, for the Peloponnese is joined to the rest of Greece by a narrow piece of land, which is called an Isthmus.
3) ignis solis propinqui ceram, qua pennae iunctae et fixae erant, mollivit et pennas ussit.

The fire of the nearby sun melted the wax with which the feathers were joined and fixed, and burnt the feathers.
Or should that be: The fire of the sun which was near the wax . . .

  1. miratus est is perfect.

  2. No, ceram is the direct object of mollivit. “Near the wax” would require the dative.
