Et tamen sibi quisque psaltes esse possit

A quick question: Have I got this sentence right? I was puzzled about the “psaltes”. From the context it was not only a “singer”, and not a “psalmist”, but more one who sings psalms. Is there a more apt English word for this than my suggestion “psalm-singer”?

Et tamen sibi quisque psaltes esse possit

“Though everyone could be his own psalm-singer”

Valete amici!
