Electrified

I’ve just experienced an electrostatic discharge.
This winter I was being bombarded by e.s. discharges and I have built a habit of discharging in advance the excessive charges through a coin, which reduces the shock I get in the process. Just a couple of minuites ago the flash was seen when the coin and a nearby metal structure was a bit larger than 5mm(~1/5 inches) away. And I felt a shock at my finger that held the coin. I hope I had recorded the scene, but I was afraid I might discharge myself off to the phone(in which the camcorder is implanted) and lose the scene anyway, because it was connected to the recharger with a cable, and thus grounded.

Not at the moment, it really depends on the weather. November seems to be the time and June too. Dunno why those months :stuck_out_tongue:. Normally it’s when I want to get in the car… hehehe, never tried that thing with the coin… not a bad idea though.

Once (but only once) I got an e. s. discharge when trying to kiss my wife’s cheek. There was a loud snap and it prickled on my lips. Surprising.

That’s shocking

The worst place is our local supermarket - must be something to do with the floor covering interacting with some of my shoes. On bad days I “zap” myself every time I touch one of the shelves or another person. As it is mainly in winter it is probably my sneakers on the vinyl flooring, it doesn’t happen in summer when I wear sandals.
At least it keeps me awake while I buy groceries - surely one of the most boring jobs on earth!

Winter air tends to be more dry and staticy here. But I don’t know if that applies in Australia.

I get it a lot when I get in and out of the car. It can usually be a pretty good zap!! I have also expienced the kissing the wife zap, Skylax…but I usually attribute that to something else!!
