I’ve been trying to find the diminutive of father (as “daddy” in English).
I know the “-lus” ending indicates the diminutive form
but what exactly is one for pater?
Paterculus.
There’s usually a ‘c’ in there for 3rd declension nouns.
Other examples:
corpusculum
tempusculum
opusculum
matercula
venterculus
musculus
thankyou!
Oh wait, sorry, just reread your original post.
Daddy is “tata” in Latin. Paterculus is more like “dear little father” — the same as Vaterchen in German.
Thank you again!
