Dative of Purpose

I find that the xplanation in the Appendix of my WL is really kind of brief- could anyone help me with this Sentiae Antiguae from Chapter Eight:

  1. Non vitae, sed scholae, discimus. (Seneca)

My fate rests in your hands!!!

Iane,

This dative just translates very standardly. Dative is to/for. ‘For’ is the only one that makes sense in this case.

Boy, is my face read… that easy huh?

Thanks for the help nostos! (By the way, nice use of vocative on Iane- its nice to see Latin in use! )
