Can πάλιν answer μὲν?

I am studying Aristotle’s Posterior Analytics and find a μὲν (at 100a16) that seems unanswered by any of the particles listed in Middle Liddell.

Could a μὲν be answered by πάλιν?

μὲν: the first universal
πάλιν: the ⟨other⟩ universals

Might πάλιν be used because of the intervening parenthetical?

Welcome.

I’m surprised no one makes it πάλιν δ᾽ ἐν, though maybe he’s forgotten about the μέν due to the interjecting thought.

I should check the manuscripts . . .

The two in the particularly valuable β family (n and D) omit the μὲν. That suggests to me that Aristotle included it and thought he answered the thought with the clause following παλιν, even if he forgot a δε. Then someone, like me, went looking for a δε and couldn’t find it. That copyist then excised the μὲν.

Thanks, Joel, for confirming that I was on the right path.
