Bob Books (Libri Bobi?)

Having thought about this for a while and now having been inspired by the Tar Heel reader website, I am going to start translating my son’s Bob Books into Latin. If you’ve never heard of them, they are extremely simple books designed to teach your children to read by teaching them a few letters at a time. I do not think I can follow their rubric of only teaching a few letters at a time, but I would like to try to maintain single syllable words as much as possible.

What I need help with most is the names right now. Can anyone think of a good way to translate the names: Mat and Sam? (Single syllables preferred.)

If you think I should leave the names the same, how should I decline them?

Second question (and third).

How would you translate, “The bag had a tag.”?

I thought this one was funny. I also wanted to check to see if this was right:

“Saccus pastillum botello fartum continuit.”

Any guesses?

(Remember this is a kids’ book.)
