I saw Book I of Athenaze at the bookstore today. Out of curiosity I flipped through it. The thing which caught my attention was that it had NT Greek and (I think) Homeric in the same volume.
If there is anyone here who uses this book, does this series mix different dialects together? From what I’ve read in the “which dialect to start with” document here on Textkit, I thought there were big differences between dialects so it would make sense to stick to one dialect only, no?
It’s good to gather your knowledge from different dialects if you want to read Greek. If you learn only Homeric, you’re going to have a hard time reading biblical Greek.
I just browsed the book, but I didn’t see anything explaining the differences between the various dialects - one chapter had a passage labeld New Testament Greek after various passages of (presumably) Epic.
The passages had lots of notes. I didn’t really study it too intently, but I was surprised that there wasn’t a lot of discussion on the different dialects.
