Athenaze Ch 8, Exercise 8γ

I’d be obliged if someone would please check my English to Greek translations. This chapter is focusing on present participles.

  1. Do you see the boys (who are) fighting in the road?
    ἆρ’ θεᾷ τοὺς παῖδας τοὺς ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ μαχομένους;
  2. Dicaeopolis stops working and drives the oxen home.
ὁ Δικαιόπολις παύεται ἐργαζόμενος καὶ ἐλαύνει τοὺς βοῦς οἴκαδε.
  3. Stop following me and go away!
    παῦε ἑπόμενός μοι καὶ ἄπελθε.
  4. Obeying Myrrhine, Melissa stays at home.
πειθομένη τῇ Μυρρίνῃ ἡ Μέλιττα μένει οἴκοι.
  5. (While) bravely leading his comrades, Theseus escapes out of the labyrinth.
ἀνδρείως ἡγούμενος τοῖς ἐταίροις ὁ Θησεὺς φεύγει ἐκ τοῦ λαβυρίνθου.
  6. The men rejoice (while) journeying to the island.
οἱ ἄνδρες χαίρουσι πορευόμενοι πρὸς τὴν νῆσον.

Since no-one else has responded:

  • In 1, plain ὁρᾷς or βλέπεις wd be better. θεᾷ is more view, gaze at, like a spectator.
  • In 3, παυε should be middle, as in 2. The active would mean stop someone else. And aorist wd be better.
  • In 4, οἴκοι μένει wd be more natural word order, adverb preceding verb. (Similarly in 2.)
  • In 5, φεύγει just means he flees, runs away. For he escapes ἐκφεύγει wd be better.
The rest look good. And your only actual mistake here is παῦε in 3.

Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, mwh. I really appreciate it.
