I’m now going through the Lingua Latina Illustrata second time. When in Cap XXVIII, some texts citing the New Testament, Matthae 14. have puzzled me.
in LLPSI: iube me venire ad te super aquam.
in New Testament: iube me venire ad te super aquas.
I’ve check it up with dictionary, and it says aqua means lake / water / sea if in single form, and rain / rainfall if in plural. From the context I think it means ‘ask me to come to you upon the sea / lake’.
So, why did the text in New Testament not using ‘aquam’ but ‘aquas’?
