Aoidoi: some new elegiacs

The last few weeks have seen several elegiac poems appear on Aoidoi.org.

Mimnermus 2, “Like the Leaves of Spring” is Mimnermus being crabby about old age, as usual.

In fragment 12 Mimnermus sympathizes with the work the Sun for the work he has to do.

Finally, I worked up two shorter fragments of Solon in a single document, Solon 9 & 11, in which he addresses his fellow citizens.

I just read the first one. Now that I no longer have Greek as a subject in school (and since I couldn’t resist Latin, nor am I going to study indoeuropean linguistics), I shall look to aoidoi for fixes of archaic Greek poetry.

It is truly a great humanist project, although Mimnermos doesn’t quite make me look forward to old age.

These are the first poems I’ve read on your site, because mirabile dictu I’ve just reached the point in my Greek where this is possible. A very pleasant experience indeed. I especially enjoyed them and your helpful notes, so thank you for your work.
