Hi, everybody:
I would appreciate any help in translating the following sentence (PL 129, 572 B):

Timor ergo est opinari, quod in ejus proprie non est sermonibus scriptum, et moliri adversarios propriae opinionis tanquam non bonae ad velamentum illius viri litteras faciendum, secundum utrumque has praeter illius intentionem falso referentes.

“There is, therefore, a danger, that the adversaries [of his opionion], would opine what is not, strictly speaking, written in his speeches, and try to make out of the letter of this man a covering for [their] own opinion, insofar as [it] is not the best one, and [do this, while] otherwise [???] falsely referring to this [i.e., their own opinion] contrary to his intention.”

Basically, my questions are, whether my translation is:

  1. a possible one;
  2. the only possible one (in terms of meaning, not style).
