Y’all pls help w/ English to Latin.
-
An environmentally focused motto: “Make more or make do.” My attempted Latin: “Confecere aut conservare.”
-
A Journey song refrain: “Some will win, some will lose, some are born to sing the blues.” My attempt: “Nonnullis vencerunt, nonullis caederunt, nonullis azurem canterunt.”
Gratia vobis y’all.
I don’t know about “confacere”, or even “conficere”, for “make more”, franciscus. How about “creare vel conservare” or “aut creare aut tractare”
Nescio, francisce, an aptum sit “confacere” vel “conficere” pro “plus facere”. Creare est verbum quod propono et tractare (vel anglicè “manage”) pro “make do”.
vencerunt, canterunt and caederunt aren’t Latin words // Non latina sunt haec verba.
nonnullis is dative or ablative plural // dativo vel ablativo casu pluraliter est
Gratia tibi Adrianus.
Here’s my 2nd attempt at item 2: “Nonnulli vicerunt, nonnulli caderunt, nonulli azurem cantarunt.”
Disce, magister…bene aut malus?
vicerunt = “they have conquered”; vincent = “they will conquer”
caderunt = ?; cadent = “they will fall/die/be slain”
cantarunt = ?; cantabunt = “they will sing”
“the blues” = “the blues”, ut opinor
Disce = “learn” (“disce, puer, quibus fias sapientior et proinde melior” // “learn, child, so that you may become wiser and thereby better”; “dic” = “say/tell [me]”
Magister non jam sum et saepè latinè erro // I’m not a teacher any more (and I make lots of mistakes in Latin).
[Estne] bonum aut malum / bene factum aut male? / = [is it] right [/a good thing] or wrong [/a bad thing] / well done or badly done?
Hunc situm inspice: http://archives.nd.edu/words.html
Obiter / by the way, “ad cantandum natus” = “[a man] born to sing [/for singing]”, nisi fallor / unless I’m mistaken.
Forsit hoc, francisce:
“Quidam vincent,
Quidam perdent,
Quidam se ad blues devovent.”
[vel]
“Quidam vincent,
Quidam perdent,
AElinis quidam se dedent.”
Gratia tibi Adrianus! Appreciate very much the detail of your response, and how you didn’t spoon feed me. Made me go and look up cases, damn you!
Libenter, francisce [latinè vocativo casu] // You’re welcome, francisus.
