a alternative to perseus' lewis & short?

is there any other alternative to perseus’ lewis & short? i mean something that could be consulted in a similar manner. i.e., by submitting the entry and returning the results. i ask this because im noticing it to be very ramdom on its functionality for instance yesterday all entries i had submitted were returned immediately, today, right now i have already waited 10 min for the page to load, not what i asked for, but an error message. this has been happening for some time, and, because it is slowing my reading down, i wish some alternative. [i know there is the archimedes projct thing, but it does not allow a internal search, rather one has to search entry for entry till he finds what he wants.]

any suggestions?

cheers!

Perseus can be incredibly slow at times. I don’t know of any alternatives, but I usually try the German mirror of the Perseus site, sometimes it gives results more quickly:

http://perseus.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de/cache/perscoll_PersInfo.html#interactive

There’s an oxford mirror, too, but I haven’t had much luck with it.

thanks, edonelly, but unfortunately that doesnt work too.

i had a idea though, which is to use the advanced search feature from google redirected at the archimedes projekt http://archimedes.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de . just type the word between edit: quote marks and lewis and short following the word. for instance “depono” lewis and short site:http://archimedes.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de tis crude, but it works.

in this way the first page will be a list of words, and its proper link to many dictionaries.
ha! who needs perseus when there is google!

the trick works too with liddel and scott for greek, its words however are to be typed with that same code which used to avaible here at textkit.

?πί for instance have to be feed as e)pi/
liddel and scott “e)pi/” site:http://archimedes.mpiwg-berlin.mpg.de

cheers!
