οὐδ᾽ ἄρα διδασκαλικὸς ὁ ῥήτωρ ἐστὶν δικαστηρίων τε καὶ τῶν ἄλλων ὄχλων δικαίων τε πέρι καὶ ἀδίκων,
on what does this G δικαστηρίων depend? on rhetor? or on didaskalikos? probably on the first.
No, it must go with διδασκαλικὸς. He’s just said that rhetoric has nothing to do with “teaching” (πειθοῦς δημιουργός ἐστιν πιστευτικῆς ἀλλ᾽ οὐ διδασκαλικῆς), and now likewise he says that the rhetor isn’t διδασκαλικὸς (of law courts etc δικαίων τε πέρι καὶ ἀδίκων) but deals merely with persuasion and belief (πιστικὸς μόνον), as distinct from knowledge (454d). His concern here is to define the province of rhetoric.
i thought so but then the dictionaries should have indicated that didaskalikos rules the gen and they dont.
