συνεκόλλων ἐνέδουν could they be inchoative imperfects?
The imperfects are of a piece with the initial ἔμενεν ἐν τῷ ἑαυτοῦ at 42e, and they continue throughout this whole section, until we finally hit aorists in the ὅτε clause at 43bc. They’re not so much “inchoative” as continuative. Cf. Smyth 1898 (“imperfect of description") and 1908, but nowadays would be analyzed in terms of aspect.
