Hi all.

I’m looking for a word for bus and driver.

I’ve heard of laophorum. I think it’s a bit artificial.

Any other ideas?

carrus omnibus ?
carpentum ?

As for driver:
I have agitator which I really don’t like.
I have also heard gubernator which is not much better.

Any ideas?

David

Have you considered rēctor, -?ris, m.?

You sure are asking for a lot of words lately, what are you working on?

Thanks for your post.

I’m working on translating simple stories and some short stories into Latin.

I myself was not capaple of doing it alone.

I had a Latin expert do most of the translations.

You can download the work at www.linguashop.com/latin
More will be added.

I see. I always enjoy a reading of Rumplestilkins, especially in Latin.

Quid censis?

bus: currus magnus, coenautocinetum,
driver: rector vehiculi, capitaneus autocineti

Thanks.

Ya, I decided to go with currus.

For driver, I went with ille qui regit, which was what was in my dictionary.

Any comments?

David

kembreg: I think that rector is your best choice. It’s used with helmsmen/pilots (on ships) and, possibly, with chariot drivers. (Actually, I’ve forgotten the exact term, but it would be easy to find in the fifth book of the Aeneid.)

Circumlocutions like ille qui regit will easily tire unless they are used rarely. So if it’s once or twice, I think ille qui regit is fine, but if the bus driver’s a major character, it might be a problem.

Best luck,

David
