1000th Open Board topic: KHLOROS

http://www.chlorine.org.uk/moreabout.htm

Without Chlorine we would not be able to live. Indeed I find it very difficult without it. Not enough for poison since anything in excess can be negative but I mean ‘naturally occurring’ in some substances from certain places I need. :frowning:

Cl2 is used also of course to kill germs in drinking water. Without it I don’t know what we would do. Also in various other juices which other rare ones such as the bishop might need. Modo sentio Cl2 modo flores, Cl2 autem excepto flores morerentur.

Chlorine is my favourite element for glorious reasons that are dear to me. What is your favourite element?

I like chlorine as well, but it is only my third favorite element. Here is my top ten, and I encourage others to weigh in with theirs:

  1. Vanadium
  2. Lithium
  3. Chlorine
  4. Calcium
  5. Rhodium
  6. Iron
  7. Xenon
  8. Bohrium
  9. Nickel
  10. Barium

I hope you’re not reading from your medicine cabinet, or we might think you are an anemic, osteoporotic, bipolar diabetic who likes gastrointestinal imaging studies a little too much!

OK, here are mine:
Iodine
Gadolinium
Barium
Tungsten
Molybdenum
Rhodium
Aluminum
Technetium
Thallium
Gallium

in that order, but I’m having second thoughts about Al…

Here’s my favorite element: Au (χρυσός).

Ag (ἀργυρός) can follow.

I like uranium… It’s pretty useful!

William, edonnelly - could you perhaps give some properties and reasons of your elements’ being placed in your top 10 ? Thank you.

Mine are all used in different kinds of medical imaging:
I, Ga, Ba = Contrast Agents
W, Mo, Rh, Al = Used to generate x-rays
Tc, Tl, Ga = Have radioactive isotopes used in imaging.

I hate chlorine. My husband is always dumping bleach on everything, and he even will boil it in kitchen pans to clean the bottom of the pan. Let me tell you the effect of that is a kind of reverse aromatherapy. It will give you a headache in about ten seconds.

My favorite elements are earth, air, fire and water. (I studied chemistry a long time ago)

unnilquadium ftw!

Carbon.

It’s green!

I prefer unuseptium, I am sure I discovered some yesterday :open_mouth: but then it decomposed to Krypton so I hurried it into my new green laser pen.

Eureka dat is such a pile of Buckminsterfullerene. I thought carbon to be grey in dee international standardz. Well if the bond angle is indeed 109.5 then I will let you auf.

Who is there who do not think Chlorine to give headaches. One Monday I acquired chlorine. We were reacting AgNO3 with 3, 3 , 5 - trichloroethane to see oooh white precipitate. Anyhow, there was a fume cupboard for this, but I just opened it up and let every one smell dem fumez. Vous fumez. Vous futes. Que vous fussiez desireux de Cl2. I felt a sudden euphoria. I was high I was entouré de Chloré, I could perceive a thin mist of green in the distance. Every one was like yo my head I was flying I had no clue what we were doing with the silver nitrate and other halogens but all I know is, I love shrimp. Chlorine shrimp.

QVIS EST CL2 CVI NON PLACEAT.

Well today as I was swimming there was so much of the damn´ chlorine in the water that my eyes turned red as if i smoked several blunts. I didn´t, I swear.
Though I´m thankful for this substance, ´cause people usually pee in the pool and as we know, chlorine kills the bacteria! YEAH!

Many thanks for sharing your chloric experience with us rimon! Excess is always a problem amongst swimming pool enthusiasts armed with Chlorine!

But what I do NOT like is how chlorine catalyses the conversion of o-zone 2O3 → 3O2

:frowning:

O-Zone?! Did someone say O-Zone?

Ma-ia hii
Ma-ia huu
Ma-ia hoo
Ma-ia haha

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO the ozone is a serious matter!

I will start singing Luther Vandross and Janet Jackson then

#the best things in life, include chlorine, now that I’ve discovered what it means to me

What’s that little non-sense song?

Nothing to do with Chlorine, but rather the infamous part of a Super Hit last summer (the summer before?) from the Romanian-language boy-band O-Zone. Real Video of the song here - it’s like junk food… sweet, but you find you keep eating without knowing why, even when you’re getting ill.

I like all elements that make my bonsai grow: N-P-K Rule!

Realone keeps crashing when it tries to play it, but now I remember my brother and some friends DID coment about that strange song… I think it was even translated to spanish.

Caffeine is not an element, but it should be. We should have it promoted.

When that happens, I find that if I open Realone first, then click the link, it works.
