After re-reading Clearchus’ speech I think I found a typo in the Loeb (1998 edition) of Anabasis:
Shouldn’t that be smooth (not rough) breathing? A. T. Murray (1914) has smooth breathing…
ὁ δ᾽ ἀνὴρ πολλοῦ μὲν ἄξιος ᾧ ἂν φίλος ᾖ…
Yes, it has to be the subjunctive of εἶναι, not the relative.

Did you really need to ask that Mitch? It should be immediately obvious that ᾗ is a typo for ᾖ. It would be obvious even without the parallel clause that follows.
Incidentally, that script is not at all difficult to read once you get used to it.
Thanks Michael, but I’m not at that point yet where it many constructions seem obvious at first reading. I’m still carefully analyzing everything while learning new vocabulary as I slowly plow through Anabasis, reading each chapter several times to build my understanding of Greek grammar.
But I surprised myself the other day when I picked up my GNT and found I could read a random passage in Luke quite easily. Apart from a few unfamiliar words, though I could usually guess these from recalling an English translation of the passage. Clearly Koine is much simpler than Attic.
