Visit www.edonelly.com

Just now, after visiting Textkit.com, my firewall program told me that I had just visited not only textkit.com, but also www.edonelly.com. How did that happen?

Some browsers and web-cache systems pre-fetch pages. If you’re reading a web page with links, there’s a good chance you might hit some of those links. The string ‘edonelly.com’ in the avatar thread might have triggered a pre-fetch.

Thank you, Will.

I just realized that every time I read a thread here I pick up a few pre-fetches, like drexel, bishounen, co-prosperity, oup-usa… (without there being any visible links). Edonelly’s caught my attention because it’s the only one that’s clearly recognizable as having come from a textkitten.

I guess I’ll have to actually visit your page now, Ed!

I don’t know how I missed this thread before.

My avatar is hosted on my website, so maybe it actually gets picked up from the image itself. What is pre-fetching? Is that your ISP trying to anticipate where you might go next (to speed up downloads)?
