Very happy to find this forum

Hello from Quebec. Am very glad to find this forum. I see it will be a treasure trove of sorts with plenty of interesting topics for discussion. Will be sending a few questions soon enough on some problems I have in understanding some passages in the Cambridge ‘Reading Greek’ text.

I wanted just to add that the Forum has so many interesting topics. I am not well versed in them but I am here to learn! I have 2 years of Latin (Wheelock and Cicero, but quite some time ago) and am now doing 1st year Greek. I’ve read many of the Greek tragedies and not yet Aristophanes, and I’ve read some of Plato and Seneca, in translation of course. Am doing 1st year Greek solo (Cambridge Reading Greek) so I think the Forum will help me keep my motivation going. I sense already that ancient Greek is very lovely and I note (not too wrongly, I hope) correspondences among the verb forms, etc. I’ll submit a few questions soon about some sentences that puzzle me in the Cambridge text.

Welcome on board!

Welcome here! My brother is in Montreal (I’m in Vancouver).

Good luck with your studies, and have fun!

Thank you, klewlis and bedwere, for the warm welcome. This is an amazing site. I wanted to add that I did read Herodotus’s Histories. Some of the greatest writing I have ever come across. Will I be able to tackle it in Greek? Remains to be seen.

Bienvenu ici!

Eventually, why not?

He’s on my to read list also. Maybe next year. This year, some Lucian of Samosata and Plato.

I have cousins surnamed McElhinney in Vancouver. Never met them, but I know they lived at some ridiculously high four figure number on Welwyn Street/Avenue or something like that. They’re probably all grandparents by now.
