I am getting a bit confused with various versions of a single noun and its/their meaning.
κᾰ́θᾰρσῐς - should be (general) cleaning/purification in Aristotelian sense from his Poetics
καθαρμός - should be purification rite (Plato mentiones it in Phaedrus, section 244e, as well as 69c)
κᾰθᾰρῐσμός - should be later version of καθαρμός
καθάρσιον - should be a purificatory offering.
This is what I managed to find online and in LSJ so far, but please correct me if there is a mistake. Could it be that the actual purification rite (in mysteries and other types of worship) and what Aristotle teaches us about tragedy are in fact different words with their corresponding meanings? Or these words from the list are being used interchangeably?
