No one who’s telling lies escapes notice/gets away with it for long?
(unless they’re running for office in Alzheimerlandia?)
OK
This and your previous are again sententious iambic trimeters, with non-tragic meter. These things were collected and force-fed to school kids, often attributed to Menander.
I found this definition of iambic trimeter (had to look it up)>
“Three iambic metra (or feet), making up a single line.
Each metron consists of two syllables: the first is typically short (or unstressed), and the second is long (or stressed).
The rhythm, therefore, follows an unstressed-stressed (short-long) pattern across the line.”
I don’t understand “unstressed-stressed (short-long)” because I thought Greek and Latin meter were based solely on length while stress was irrelevant.
