Joel, I’ll put your rudeness down to an understandable fit of pique that you’re the only one who takes your peculiar view of the syntax. But please remember how many valuable contributors to Textkit you have driven away with your behavior (I think of Sean Jones in particular; I’m sure no-one wants a repeat of that episode).

Phalakros, it was incorrect for me to read your post as a “me too” to mwh’s rudeness. In reality, it was ambiguous as regards to that. The “I didn’t bother to read what you wrote, but I disagree” part was annoying, but should have been passed without comment.

Joel,

Let’s agree to disagree. I do appreciate it if your intent in your last post was conciliatory. Honestly, I was offended when I read it, finding it immature and rude like your previous comment. But let us move on. I genuinely have no wish or capacity to quarrel. As I mentioned to you this summer, I find this kind of uninhibited, online hostility very stressful and upsetting. It’s why I stay away from social media and most other tech. It often just seems mean-spirited. I love studying, teaching, and researching Ancient Greek. That’s why I’m here. I hope we can all have that in common—I know we do—and overlook our differences.

Phalakros, you posted your first reply in this thread immediately after a very rude comment by mwh, with whom your comment expressed agreement. I am not going to pretend that you’re somehow simple. Either call me immature and rude, as your comment does now, or ask to move on. Both at once is, as you know, disingenuous. Make up your mind, please.
