From πόλις we have the genitives πόλεως , πόλεων. Why is the accent with the genitives not on the penult since the ultima is long?
Because originally it’s πόληος and the last syllable is short. Then, there’s a quantitative metathesis: πόλ**ηος > πόλεω**ς. That’s all.
