τον κρείττω

Hi,
I’m a beginner in learning Greek. Why does this form have the accusative article (τον) and a genitive ending?
Thanks for your reply!
Peter

It does not. It has an accusative ending. One would expect, and sometimes get, κρείττονα, but just as often the intervocalic -ν- drops out, the -ο- and the -α- contract, and violà, κρείττω! You can see the complete declension here:

Hello Barry,
thank you very much for your quick response! Now i can tackle the sentence much better.
Kind regards
Peter
