παιδες

Hello -

In "Reading Greek, Text and Vocabulary - page 21, last quote in the conversation, I read the word παιδες which in the vocabulary is translated as "children (nom.). In all my previous studying, I see nominative plural of “child” as “παιδια”. Why the difference? What am I missing?

With thanks,

Asterisk

Hello!

They are two different words. παίδες is plural of παῖς, παιδίον is a diminutive (neuter) whose plural is παιδία.

Thank you very much.
