ἄλλα τε λέγων ὅσα ἐν τῷ τοιούτῳ ἤδη τοῦ καιροῦ ὄντες ἄνθρωποι οὐ πρὸς τὸ δοκεῖν τινὶ ἀρχαιολογεῖν φυλαξάμενοι εἴποιεν ἄν,

Richard - in my (fairly literal) translation of Thucydides I’ve rendered this as:

‘… and mentioning everything else that men would say at such a critical moment [more literally, ‘that men who were in such a critical situation as this would say’], not guarding against appearing to anyone to be talking in clichés …’
