Salve! // Python's "Life of Brian" theater re-rel

Nomen mihi Julia est.

Well, it’s about time I wrote to introduce myself. I’m a nearly middle-age adult, learning Latin at home with the assistance of Orberg’s “LINGVA LATINA per se illustrata,” Oxford Latin Course, Wheelock’s (now strictly as a grammar reference), and both the book and audio tape versions of Traupman’s “Conversational Latin for Oral Proficiency.” It’s slowly starting to come together but I’ve only just started, and most of my journey is yet ahead. (I’m about halfway through the first Oxford book.)

Speaking of Latin grammar  (how’s that for a segue?), I read that Monty Python’s “Life of Brian” is being re-released in U.S. theaters in April 2004 to celebrate its 25th anniversary. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/film/3563405.stm
I saw it on its first run, which seems like just yesterday…

Salve Iulia!

I know a little bit more Latin than that, but still a newbie. I’m using “Latin for Beginners” and think it is sinking in. I like just about anything by Monty Python & The Flying Circus.

Do you think the audio tapes help?

Salve et tu, Barrius!

Oh yes, the audio tape does help, although the recording quality varies a bit on Side II. It’s helped me with pronunciation and vocabulary mostly; I think it makes a good supplement for anyone learning Latin without a teacher. We need all the help we can get!

Julia

I looked it up on Amazon - not too pricey. Once I get a little further along I might look into it. Have you heard anything about the Rosetta Stone software? (it is pricey - about US$250).

thanks,

Barrius

No; but they have a free demo available. ( http://www.rosettastone.com/ind/free_demo )

I haven’t tried the demo, only because I know I couldn’t afford to buy the full version if I liked it.
