Representing Greek

I’m sure this topic has been done to death, but I can’t seem to read Greek text in this forum using my browser (Safari, using Mac OS X.3).
I have SPIonic installed. I have no problems using the Perseus site. I’m probably being obtuse, but perhaps someone can suggest what the problem is.

Are you sure your Perseus settings are on SPIonic and not Unicode (which OSX.3 does just fine)?

When I got my iSlab (a few weeks ago) I had to fiddle a bit to get SPionic to actually install correctly. It would show up in the FontBook font list, but when I clicked on it it didn’t show me the preview of it like it would for other fonts. Once the preview displayed, all was fine in Safari.

I’m afraid I’m not entirely sure how I got it working. I recall unstalling twice, then installing one last time in frustration, and it worked. I’m sure I was doing something different, but I don’t know what. But I do know it’s possible to get SPIonic working in your environment.

Thanks for your reply, Annis. The fact that you’d had some difficulty as well encouraged me to believe I wasn’t doing something obviously stupid and so to keep trying. I removed SPIonic from the various places I’d tried putting it, downloaded another copy, installed it – and it worked. I wish I could say what it was I did differently, as this might be of some use to some future sufferer, but I can’t. Like Sophocles with respect to another matter (as quoted by Socrates, Republic 1.329c), I’m just glad to be done with the problem:

a]smene/stata me/ntoi au]to\ a]pefugon, w#sper luttw~nta/ tina kai\ a1grion despo/thn a]podra/j.

(You were right, by the way: I was using Unicode, not SPIonic on the Perseus site.)

Oh dear. Let me try that again: [size=134]ἀσμενέστατα μέντοι αὐτὸ ἀπέφυγον, ὥσπερ λυττῶντά τινα καὶ ἄγριον δεσπότην ἀποδράς
