Looking for the translation of the prepositional phrase:
Above All Else
I’ve found several translations in the form of
Supremus Totus Alius, Super Omnia, Super Alia, etc
I would prefer a translation for all three words if possible as all the words carry a significance towards their purpose. I have found that else is probably the most problematic word, but feel free to prove me wrong.
Context: Refering to friends and family (without actually mentioning them), so from a male, to a group. These are the most important things to me. They come before everything else in life. Hope that is a strong enough explanation. Thanks for any help.

I’m not sure how much you know about Latin, so forgive me if I am saying something you already know. Sometimes when someone wants something translated and it is important to them, they feel that every word should be translated, as in this case. However, sometimes one Latin word may stand for more than one English word, and thus there are less Latin words than the English words you started with. “else” does not quite fit any Latin word, and the only way to represent it is by approximation. I would translate this phrase as praeter omnia or super omnia; you could, I suppose, add cetera “other things” (else?) directly before or after omnia - this is not necessary though.
I appreciate your help. Super Omnia is what I’m finding from my other translation attempts. I recently expanded the phrase to “above all else, friends and family”. I received a translation of In primis, amici familiaque as one of two options provided by the source (the other was similar to the super omnia version). Loosely I would assume that the translation would be friendship and family comes first. Again I understand that there would be no direct translation, I’m jst looking for one that fits the best as well as looks and sounds good. Your thoughts???
“Amici familiaque super omnia (cetera)” would do it.
I’d personally make it “amicitia” though, just sounds nicer to me.
Ps. I think there are some issues with the Roman interpretation of “familia”, this would includes servants and slaves, pretty much all dependants within the household.

Yeah, familia if you are in the habit of keeping slaves and servants. If you just want to refer to your relatives, the word is domus.
