quantus/a/um and cuanto

I am interested in how Latin words relate to Spanish words (and French). I noticed that “cuanto” means “how much,” and that Latin quantus/a/um means “how much/many.”
Are these two words related? They sound the same and mean the same thing.

Gratias ago,

Yes, Spanish is a Romance language, that is, descended from Latin.
Ita est, elduce. Hispanica lingua est romanica, id est, à latinâ demissa.

When I want to look up the etymology of a Spanish word, I look it up in Diccionario Clave. It’s also a great dictionary to use to collect example sentences in Spanish. (I use those sentences to make flash cards.)
