William Annis sent me this link a couple of weeks ago because he knew that I was I was reading the Hymn to Demeter, and it just occured to me that other people might find it interesting too. It is a new etymology of the name Persephone which was put forward last fall. I wasn’t able to follow a lot of the comparative linguistics, but the general idea is pretty interesting in itself, and notice also that there is a link to comments by scholars from all over the world, with some familiar names.
wow! thanks for posting it (it will soon start doing the rounds from my end). I just finished reading it and the comments (the ones in English that is and a few of the French). What an interesting theory and so palusible too! I was especially interested in the second part of Persephone’s name (the oh so ellusive and buffling -phone).
