participles English to Greek

I’m stumped. How does one translate

those who had ransomed…

I assume it uses a participle because the lesson is on that topic, but what tense?

Jean

Hi Jean, good question, I’m not positive, but this is my guess: I think it would be a perfect pple, and I believe that for the meaning “to ransom” λύω would be in the middle voice, so perhaps οἱ λελυμένοι. Hopefully someone else will chime in too.

What’s the rest of the sentence? Sometimes where we use a past perfect in English subclauses it makes good sense in Greek to use an aorist. We talked about this a bit early last year: Tenses.
