In my third attempt in as many years to study Latin, I’m trying to follow Nuntii Latini as an exercise beyond what the textbooks offer.
Am I reading this headline correctly?
“Fuga apium universa in America.”
All celery in America routed/put to flight/banished?
Huh??!
I’m working on the body of the story which I hope will help correct my translation of the headline.
All the same, my reading of the headline did let it perform it’s intended fuction: it caught my interest!

bees apis can mean bees too
It might be a cele-bration of cucumber-time; but you’ll find it is about bees

Ahhh..
So it’s the genitive plural of apis, apis, not the accusative singular of apium, apii.
It makes sense; a collective group (universa) of bees rather than a single celery stalk :).

Interesting, Cassell’s gives parsley for apium, not celery.
I find “wild celery, parsley.”
