Julius dominus servi est.
Julius dominus servorum est et pater liberorum.
Why is there nominative plural used in the first sentence, and genitive plural in the second? Shouldn’t both sentences use genitive plural or am I missing something?
You consider servi to be nominative plural, but here it cannot be so. What could servi be then?
Yep - I’m an idiot. But once I had fixed on the “servorum” and bearing in mind that Julius has two servants, I just went round and round in circles. It needed someone to make me step back and take another objective look. Obviously it’s Genitive Singular.

And, making mistakes is an important part of learning the language. We tend to remember the corrections made from mistakes a lot longer than work done correctly…
Hi Barry - I couldn’t get away from the image of Julius and his TWO servants, therefore servi just HAD TO BE nominative plural! Should have concentrated on the text right in front of me. Lesson learnt - hopefully!
