Hello, I’m James, just joined.
I’ve been interested in the Ancient Greeks since I was a child, my favorite book was Guirand’s World Mythology Larrousse. And then moved on to Plato and, principally, Socrates and the Socratics in my teens, more recently the Stoics, but not even vaguely the pop version. More Jonnny Christensen than Ryan Holladay.
Initially trained as an engineer, but my university background is in French, Russian, and linguistics, my Greek is worse than my Russian, and my Russian is pretty bad. My French is pretty good and I’m very interested in semantics, semiotics, and hermeneutics. My big thing is that we are not using the right words in English to engage with the ancient Greeks, so we have to work out what the ancient Greeks were saying in ancient Greek.
I have a sizeable Facebook group and a blog:
I’m also working on Eulogikon:
That’s currently version one, with version two on its way. Trying not to get sidetracked into philology and morphology (which is all the rage at the moment) this is more the stuff that I’m interested in pursuing. And the text and the rest of it is a tool that serves these ends
It would be good to connect with other people interested in the same areas, and to share ideas and resources.
Welcome to Texkit, James. Hopefully you’ll improve your Ancient Greek here.
