I’ve been a long-time lurker at TextKit and, since I’m finally devoting myself more consistently to Latin (and later Greek), I figured I’d finally get around to joining the board. I’m an English Lit teacher who lives in Boston and teaches at an elite private school outside of the city.
After undergrad, I tried numerous times to learn Latin (through Wheelock) and Greek (through Crosby) on my own or with a friend who served as a tutor. When I got my grad degree at BC in English Lit, I audited the first year Greek and Latin courses (Hansen and Quinn and Wheelock). The Greek course was fantastic, and I came out reading Plato (though I’ve since lapsed to such an extent this would be nigh impossible); the Latin class, larger and filled with unserious students, was less so.
This was all about 4 years ago, and I’ve since devoted myself to what was once the weaker of my two languages, Latin. I’m working through Lingua Latina, and supplementing with grammar and vocab from Wheelock and Learn to Read Latin, generally running ahead with the reading, and shoring up the grammar. I’m at about chapter 25 in Ørberg.
Aside from Classics (and literature in general), I’m a big fan of basketball, beer, and writing.
I hope this suffices to prove my realness and introduce myself appropriately. I look forward to engaging with you all and learning a great deal.
