New member!

Hello everyone, new guy here.

I’m not a professional, student or academic in any way, though I’ve loved ancient history & antiquity since I was probably 10 years old or so (I’m almost 37 now, so it’s been a couple decades of interest). While I had wanted to go to collage for ancient Greek or Roman history, my path didn’t turn out that way (4 years in the Army and then became a paramedic when I rotated back to civilian life). That said, my book shelves are filled with history books and I’ve never lost my fascination for it. I’ve also always been a huge science fiction fan, and until this last year or so, history and science fiction were two distinctly separate topics of interest to me. What changed that was an idea for a graphic novel story (writing being another hobby of mine for a long while now), that takes place in a distant future where Italy, Central Europe & the Mediterranean are once again under the banner of an expansive, flourishing, Roman Empire mixed with a militarized Vatican Theocracy. Sparing everyone excessive details, a part of the story mixes ancient roman history into a futuristic setting, and that also includes Latin being found in far more everyday common usage. That brings me to the reason I’m here, which is to be able to access the resources of the threads here to help me use certain parts of Latin appropriately. Also, if the forum members will oblige, to occasionally ask questions in help with translations or proper usage as I write this story. I realize this is perhaps not the most common reason for someone to join up here and read through and interact on the forums, but I hope it’s not too strange. While Latin in the story won’t be used excessively, I really do want to get right the amount that is used, and any help from the knowledge of the forum members here would be greatly appreciated (and genuinely of great interest to me, story aside).

Thanks a lot!

Paul

(ps. for the Mods-- this is actually my second post, as I you probably already know, as my first post was a mix of introduction and Latin question, but I think I may have mistakenly submitted that thread under “Learn Latin” as opposed to the “Open Forum”. Since it’s submitted for review, I have no way of seeing it and if I posted it in the right section. If it wasn’t submitted to the Open Forum as I meant to, my apologies!)

Welcome to Textkit!

Your novel sounds quite interesting, what is its title and where can it be found?
