Hello, I am a new member. I have studied Greek and Latin many years ago but I am in need of relearning. I am going to be tinkering with a translation project of an Early Christian Bible commentary and I will be seeking lots of help trying to make sense of it. Anybody who wants to get involved is more than welcome, I can sure use the help!

I am still in the process of deciding which one. It will most likely be a very concise exposition found in the Glossa Ordinaria. I have been involved in similar translation projects, but right now I am interested in the early commentaries on Biblical books that did not receive much exegetical attention. I am reviewing the book of Wisdom of the Gloss and the book of Proverbs. The comments that I am looking to translate are very short, and there really are not many per chapter. That’s a substantial undertaking, and I doubt anyone would be willing to translate that much text for you gratis.
Are you coming here because you’ve been unable to obtain help elsewhere, by any chance?
An alternative to paying a translator is learning Latin yourself. If you commit to doing that you’ll get plenty of help here, I’m sure.

I am not looking for anyone to translate it for me, I have just chosen Wisdom and started this evening. I’m not sure why it matters to anyone if I have “been unable to obtain help elsewhere” but I haven’t seeked help on “this” project elsewhere. But in the process of working on this project I will, yes, learn more Latin by exposure, and make steps to completing a personal project (being a personal collection of Bible commentaries on the whole Bible of early Christian commentators). Many books of the Bible I have multiple commentaries per book of early Church Fathers, but there are some books of the Bible that have no commentaries from early expositors that have been translated into English yet, and I hope I can fill the gaps for my own personal collection.
This commentary that I will be working on is concise, but I will need to get help. I will post some parts seeking help to any generous enough to take a crack at it for me. And I will also be paying an expert Latin translator friend to do some for me from time to time. I just plan to have fun with it. Some people like golf, some like skydiving, I happen to love exploring early Bible commentaries.
I see. So your friend will only work on it if you pay him or her, but you hope to get strangers to do the same job for free. I’d have thought it might be the other way round.
Fair enough. If you want to tee off with your first shot at translation, we can see who is willing to play your game.
