New member introduction

Salvete omnes!

I’d like to introduce myself: My name is Lars, I’m from Germany, and I’m a student of British and American studies and history with an interest in Latin, especially in teaching and learning Latin using methods more commonly employed in modern foreign language learning. This means I’m into communicative Latin teaching, spoken Latin, extensive reading and the like.

I had four years of Latin at school, where traditional methods were used, with a heavy focus on grammar and translation. Although I was interested in the language and the culture, I didn’t learn much under these conditions and left school with Latin skills that were rudimentary at best.

However, a while ago I discovered Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata and my Latin began to improve. I’ve worked through Familia Romana as well as several other volumes of the series, but I haven’t started Roma Aeterna yet. After finishing the first one recently, I’m currently reading the second volume of Harry Potter in Latin, which I’m enjoying quite a lot. I also try to listen to Latin podcasts and audiobooks regularly.

Although I’m interested in Greek and have been gathering resources for learning Greek for a while now, I haven’t really started learning this language yet. Well, I hope I’ll find the time for that some day, but for now I’m trying to focus on Latin.

I’ve been reading posts on this forum for quite a while now, and today I thought I might as well join it. I’m looking forward to interesting discussions!
