Here is a translation of Thucydides into Modern Greek that I stumbled upon the last day or two:
The Pelloponnesian [sic] War. Thucydides in modern Greek. The translation of Eleutherios Venizelos. Knowing little or nothing about modern Greek, I can’t say anything about the accuracy of the translation. The only date given is 2019, but that is not I don’t think the original date of the translation. Anyway, some here like to go from Greek to Greek rather than English or some other language. This is mostly for them. Enjoy.

You are correct in your impression that this translation is much older than 2019, about 100 years older. Venizelos undertook the translation during his stay in Paris in the early 1920’s. He was Prime Minister (several times) of Greece during the first quarter of the 20th century and was a key figure in Greek politics all during those turbulent times. After losing an election in November of 1920, he moved to Paris and with some time on his hands, crafted the translation.

It appears that the contribution of Carvalho is just to convert polytonic to monotonic. This appears to have been done correctly.
But what is most startling to me is that he has written what appears to be a scholarly section at the beginning called Characteristics of Modern Greek, but which is rubbish, indicating that he has absolutely no knowledge of Modern Greek.
