I came across this today.( i.e Mc Clintocks classical latin) A years subscription for $25.It seems to be based around practise translations latin english and vice versa.Anybody recommend it ?Does it fill the gap between the basic texts and the original authors in say Wheelock?

I have only seen their online description, not the actual “course,” but it looks like it is based heavily on McClintock’s First Book In Latin, which you can get free online from Google Books:

It sounds to me like they’ve put together a bunch of online drills to accompany this textbook, so you could look at the textbook and see if it is what you are looking for, but it sounds like it’s geared more for beginners and not for someone who is looking to “fill the gap.”
If you just want practice translations (both ways) and want to save money (i.e., free) there are lots of books with answer keys on Google Books:
There are also some excellent options right here at textkit, including D’Ooge’s Latin For Beginners which has a key authored by textkit users, as well as North and Hillard’s Latin Prose Composition and key. D’Ooge is similar to Wheelock in that it is geared towards the beginner, while N&H is more advanced and suited for someone who has finished one of those (or a comparable) text.

These options are not exactly the same as a cool online interface that will automatically grade your work, but then again you can always post translations here when you can’t figure something out or if you don’t understand the difference between your translation and what’s in the key, and it will cost you significantly less than $25 a year.
