Salve, nove sodalis hollandice!
Welcome to Textkit! Where are you planning on attending university next year? I’m presently studying Latinity in Amsterdam.
Concerning your question about reading the classics, I think there’s a lot you can do about it (not that I’m fully able to pick up something and understand all of it without notes or a dictionary, mind you), but it takes time and lots of reading experience. I think the more you read, the more you try composing your own things in Greek or Latin, the more you use these languages (for instance in conversing with others, either via chat or by use of the boards) the more of a ‘feeling’ you will get for the languages, and the less looking up you’ll have to do. Perhaps the other members can add to this.
Anyway, bona fortuna in all of your studies!
Iulianus
P.S. I’ve noticed that there seems to be a considerable amount of dutch members here - I guess perhaps the decline in classics is not as drastic as I used to think (either that, or we dutch are just more inclined to join language forums!).
