Looking for Classical Greek OCR Software

Χαίρετε, ὦ συμμαθηταί – ἰδού με μετὰ καιρὸν ἀνακάμπτοντα.

FOR LINUX (e.g. UBUNTU) USERS:
Classical Greek OCR has long been satisfactorily addressed by the usual supplied scanning/OCR software
(such as “gscan2pdf”, μεταξὺ ἄλλων)

“Tesseract-ocr” is an already mentioned free tool specially conceived for classical Greek, highly recommended.

Then, it may be useful to search the Internet for → “Greek and Latin digital tools”

May I also suggest another good starting point: himeros.eu (especially the part “Ancient Greek OCR Trainings”)

When I need to OCR some text, I use “Transkribus” software [no links in first 10 posts]. It is designed for recognition of handwritten texts, but includes FineReader engine as well to work with printed books. It is free and works fine on Linux.

Didn’t try Transkribus on Greek texts yet, but FineReader is a state of art engine and should deal with it.
