Lingua Latina series

I’m planning to buy Hans Orberg’s Lingua Latina, now I’ve found a local stockist, and I’m wondering which books of the series I NEED. Obviously Lingua Latina: Familia Romana part 1, and what else? Lingua Latina: Exercitia Latina I? Do I need the Teacher’s Manual? Since I’ve been learning for awhile using D’ooge(I’m up to lesson 15 or 16), is that at the level I’m looking at? I’m still hazy on some of the stuff I’ve done in D’ooge, so I’m thinking I still need the basics.
Any advice on what I’d need of the series? Thanks in advance.

If you’ve already had some experience, then just pars I ought to be enough for now, which is what I did. I never bought or needed the exercitia or teacher’s manual, so I can’t vouch for them.

Salve, Celtica!

In my opinion, get LL Pars I and the Exercitia. They are very helpful, even if you already studied another book, which was my case a year ago. See Tertius Robertus’ thread below for things that you’ll find in that workbook.

Vale!

Thanks for the input, Amadeus and Lucus Eques

I’ve ordered Pars 1 and the Exercitia, which should hopefully be enough to get me going with the series. If I find I need other books in the future, I can always order them later. I wouldn’t have minded getting the Student’s Manual, but it’s not available from where I’m ordering, and I do need to keep an eye on the cost anyway, so probably just as well.

 I recieved them today. They look like they live up to their reputation. I might buy Latine Disco later, but I’ll see how I get on first.

Noone’s going to get any sense out of me today, with my nose stuck into LL

Celtica,

Latine Disco is a very helpful part of the program. You will find yourself referring to it more often as you move through the later Capitula. At times, new grammar is introduced in such a subtle way. Latine Disco will point out and illustrate what’s happening with the grammar for each Capitulum. As you study Latin, you will find that having a few grammar references is essential. (I have the D’Ooge text as well.)

Focus Publishing carries all of the LL materials.
