I presume “kavayas” is Sanskrit for Aoidoi. Though I haven’t noticed any [Latin word for bard].org site either.

I presume “kavayas” is Sanskrit for Aoidoi.

Sort of. kavi is the word for the composers of the Vedic verses, but did generalize out to “poets” later.

In Sanskrit literature Valmiki, the author of the Ramayana, is said to be “aadi kavi”, the first poet. Kavayas is the plural for kavi.

I think the most obvious is ‘poeta’, but ‘uates’ fits the bill better
