Latin or Greek?

Hello, I was under the impression I wanted to learn latin. And when I searched on google for information textkit was the first to come up and seems to hold the possibility of being an excellent resource.

However I was perplexed at the first page offering ancient greek lessons.

My goal is to learn a new language and I figured latin would give me an edge in moving on to others. Is this still so or would greek be better way to go? I currently only speak english and am way past schooling so it would be a part time self educational experience.

Your help is appreciated.

If your goal is to learn other languages, specifically Romance languages, then latin will be the most useful. The grammar and vocab will give you a foot up in any of the Romance languages.

Greek is more of a loner… but charming and beautiful in its own right.

Eventhough I don’t like Latin  , I agree. Latin will be easier and so many other languages are related to Latin. If you learn Latin it will help you with Spanish, French or Italian for example, but Greek will help you with …uh… modern Greek  . Greek is also an indo-european language, so it is related to most European languages too, but with Latin the link is much closer as French evolved out of Latin. So yeah, if you want to learn a language that’ll help you with others, then Latin (but Greek is a much nicer language  ).
